Wandsworth Meeting House

Our Quaker Meeting is based on silence, a silence of waiting and listening. The silence is different from that of solitary meditation, as the listening and waiting in a Quaker Meeting is a shared experience in which worshippers seek to experience God for themselves. We come together to listen to the promptings of love and truth in our hearts.

We believe that God is present in everyone. Putting our faith into action is central to our way of life. We try to live simply and sustainably, to trust in love, and to work towards peace and equality. We are a diverse and friendly group who welcome newcomers from any religious background or none. We are of all ages, from babes in arms, to teenagers, to eighty year olds plus.

You are welcome to join us for Meeting for Worship on Sundays at 10:30am either at the meeting house or remotely by Zoom for an hour followed by a chat, or on the second  (at the meeting house only) and fourth Tuesdays (zoom only) of each month at 12:30am for 30 minutes.

Winchmore Hill Meeting House

We try to be an optimistic spiritual community in a divided and materialistic world.  We reject war and the threat of war.

Our worship is based on silence and stillness.  It speaks to many in a world overloaded with clamour.

We are  open to different spiritual insights.  We draw on the strengths of our Christian roots while accepting many paths and inspirations.  Listening, waiting, and trusting, we are connected with the divine which we understand in many different ways.

We share responsibility across the whole group, we don’t have professional spiritual leaders.

Our concern for equality led us to be pioneers in women’s rights to speak and partake in public life.  We were early campaigners against slavery; and now, we offer marriage to same sex couples.

In the  face of the environmental and economic crisis, we find the traditional Quaker emphasis on simple living comes into its own.   Peace, the environment, the economy, and relations between peoples and countries are all linked together.

Finchley Meeting House

Finchley Quakers have been continuously meeting at 58 Alexandra Grove since 1967. Prior to this, they met at various venues and in and around Finchley since 1945. The Meeting was created by a number of small groups who previously worshiped at Golders Green Meeting.

The new meeting house was paid for through a combination of fund raising by members of the Meeting, grants and two very generous gifts of funds and land. The Meeting House was opened on 28th October 1967 and the opening was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Barnet, George Flesher and Margaret Thatcher, the local MP.

Golders Green Meeting House

The Meeting House was completed in 1913 as part of the first stage of Hampstead Garden Suburb. Henrietta Barnett’s experience of life in Whitechapel at Toynbee Hall provided her with the impetus to design a garden suburb where rich and poor would live as neighbours in a healthy environment. The garden entrance is part of the ancient wood of Middlesex, and the informal garden area of shrubs and flowers creates peaceful places to sit.

Muswell Hill Meeting House

The Quaker Meeting in Muswell Hill was established in 1910, though it was yet to find a permanent building. The minute books from the first business meetings show what was important to the first Quakers in Muswell Hill. As well as arrangements for holding Meetings, Quakers were very aware of the growing unrest in the international situation. With the outbreak of war in 1914, Quakers in Muswell Hill joined in protests against compulsory military service. Quakers’ action on peace matters and support for conscientious objection continued throughout the war.

The Meeting House in Church Crescent was built some years later in the 1920s on land that had been part of Upton Farm. Designed in the ‘Arts and Crafts’ style by Quaker architect, Fred Rowntree, from the outside it resembles a simple barn, echoing the simplicity of original Meeting Houses, some of which had been country barns. The pitched roof and high beams of the main meeting room create a sense of space and light despite the small leaded windows along the sides. Its official opening in July 1926 brought together representatives of all the local churches.

Croydon Meeting House

Croydon Quakers warmly welcome people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, sexualities, (dis)abilities and creeds are welcome. You are welcome to join us without prior notice, regardless of personal belief or nominal religion. Quakers worship together in silence in order to still our minds and open our hearts and lives to God. You may feel more comfortable with terms such as the Light, the Spirit, the Divine, the Eternal, or something else. We have our roots in Christianity, however we don't have a fixed creed, because we find that the search for truth can lead us to new expressions of values as well as confirming existing ones. We call these values 'testimonies'. Today we focus on equality, peace, truth, simplicity, sustainability and community.

Bromley Meeting House

Bromley Quaker Meeting House is a single-story building consisting of one large Meeting Room and a smaller Small Meeting Room which can be divided into two smaller rooms. Each room can be hired individually and share use of the kitchens and access to the toilets. The entire building can also be hired. There is car parking in the front, and Bromley South is a few minutes walk away. Everyone is welcome to come to our Quaker meeting, no matter what their background.

Our values, which we call our Quaker testimonies, are peace, equality, truth and integrity, sustainability and care for our environment, and living simply.  We try to live by these values, while also recognising that doing so presents challenges for all of us. Quaker meetings are held in the quiet to deepen our awareness and find the inward source of our strength.

Forrest Hill Meeting House

We are open to many ways of life and thought and are willing to learn from all other faiths and churches and from each other. We are less concerned with what we believe than with how we live our lives, care for each other and follow our testimonies of peace, equality, integrity, community and simplicity, guided by the Light that is in us all.
